More of the WUWM series on MPS

by folkbum

This is the last day for WUWM's series on Milwaukee Public Schools. Later today, I'll be featured in a segment on WUWM's "Lake Effect." It airs at 10 AM on 89.7 FM or streaming online here. After about 11 AM today, the episode and my segment will be archived here.

If you missed yesterday's live "Lake Effect," you can listen here.

WUWM's series on Milwaukee Public Schools

by folkbum

I'll be on one segment of "Lake Effect" this Friday. But WUWM has been running a series on the Milwaukee Public Schools. There's been a lot of good information and commentary so far. Here's a few specific highlights:
• MPS project preview
• The impact of poverty and violence on students' educations
• The special challenges of special education
• MPS vs. peer districts
• Four days of "Lake Effect" so far: Friday, Monday, Tuesday, today

I get some right, I get some wrong

by folkbum

2008 is the first year I made predictions, 30 of them. One has already proven wrong--#16, that Louis Butler would win his race. On the other hand, I called Tom Barrett's win (#22).

I also predicted (#4) that one or more anonymous Wisconsin bloggers would de-cloak and reveal their true identities this year. Chalk another one up in the Win column for me, as the illusory tenant, under his real name, joins Jane Hampden on the "Lake Effect" bloggers series this morning. Listen on air at 10 AM or 11 PM, or online later today.

A Voice Made for Blogging . . .

. . . and a face made for radio.

by folkbum

Milwaukee's public radio station, WUWM (available at 89.7 FM on the radio dial--yes, people, there's an entire band of radio out there that is not AM!--and via streaming audio at WUWM.com), is doing a series this year on Wisconsin bloggers on their "Lake Effect" program. They are starting the series with a handful of political bloggers this week: I'm on Monday, Michael Mathias of Pundit Nation is scheduled for Wednesday, and Rick Esenberg of Shark and Shepherd will appear this week as well.

I'm apparently leading off the show Monday. Jane Hampden, the host and producer, begins the interview by saying I've been called Milwaukee's premier liberal blogger, or somesuch. That kind of threw me for a loop--I don't call myself that--and the rest of the interview just went downhill.

If you can't catch the show when it airs Monday at 10 AM and 11 PM, you can always listen to the on-line archives the next day.
